Violinist Robert Sanders has been a member of the Bruckner Orchester Linz since September 2026. Prior to this tenure-track engagement, he was in the Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra from 2021-2023. With the Philharmonic he performed in more than ten countries under many of the world’s most prominent conductors, including his participation in the internationally broadcast Summer Night Concert at Schönbrunn Palace in June 2022. He also is a frequent substitute at the Vienna State Opera, with credits including Strauss' Rosenkavalier as well as premieres of Wagner's Lohengrin and Tannhäuser under the direction of Christian Thielemann. He has performed at prominent summer festivals such as Salzburg, Lucerne, Grafenegg, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

 

Mr. Sanders is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he received his Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Renée Jolles with a Minor in Psychology. Since 2023 he has been pursuing Master's and Diploma studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts under Prof. Lieke te Winkel, First Concertmaster of the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria.

Hailing from Chicago, Robert began playing the violin at the age of five, first taught by his mother, Tamara Glassburg, and his father, James Sanders. He continued studies with Hye-Sun Lee of the Music Institute of Chicago followed by Robert Hanford, concertmaster of the Lyric Opera Orchestra.
